Responsible adult must be in attendance at all times

Paint is Tempera certified Non-toxic and conforms to Conforms to ASTM D-4236 regulations and is AP certified.

Tempera is egg based. Those with any kind of allergy concerns not limited to egg, are recommended to skip this activity. 

Safety glasses required (on 2nd floor)

Paint and markers can stain some fabrics

Keep your hands and arms to yourself (no physical contact)

Ask permission before throwing paint at someone

No climbing/standing on furniture

Use chalk markers on tables or plastic covered walls only

Adults must remain in visual contact with children at all times

NO RUNNING

No glitter, sand, or confetti

Do not throw/shoot or pour water

No outside art supplies

We recommend wearing poncho kits

We do not supply plastic bags

Bus your own paint supplies to designated buckets please

No splatter paint or splatter paint clean up on 1st floor

No paint clean up in bathrooms, we like to reserve for those in need

Those not following rules may be removed

Booking info

What comes with a  booking?


Bookings are $35 per hour. Up to 10 people per group. This reserves your spot and you can use the table if you wish. You then purchase paint $3/bottle. ($5 lifetime membership required for each person, this includes a Splatter Box T-shirt and discounts on future visits.)




How many people can attend?


As of now the max is 10 with the restrictions. Hopefully in the future you will be able to bring more. In that case you would just book 2 bookings for the same hour and could have up to 20. Or even book 3 tables for the same hour and have up to 30.




Are canvases included?


Canvases can be purchased additionaly




Can I arrive early to set up?


No early arivals available. Book additional hours if you need. Max 3hrs.




Can I bring my own canvases or paint?


No. We use specific paint. Our canvases have take-home boxes made for them so you can transport your wet artwork.




If I book a spot will I share the space?


Yes. please follow 6 ft social distance




Can I bring food?


Yes. You may bring in outside food and beverage. We have a small freezer if you need for icecream.




Is a membership required


Yes a membership is required for each member of your group. A lifetime membership can be had for $5 and comes with a t shirt and discounts on future visits. See Membership for more details.




What if I need more than 1 hour?


You can book up to 3 hours. Just make sure you book them in a row, they will have to be 3 seperate bookings. This reserves your table up to 10 people max. The cost is $35 for each hour. You may add additional hours as needed in person, depending on availability. If you are throwing a Birthday party, it is recomended to book at least 2 hours in advance. An automatic charge will be applied once the second hour begins, regardless if you stay for the whole 2nd hour.





General FAQ

How much paint will I use?


You should plan on at least 3 bottles of paint per person but, how much you use is really up to you.




Will the paint stain my clothing?


It may! We use high quality paint so it glows bright in the black light and creates a vibrant design on your canvas. We have caps, ponchos, and shoe covers to help with the mess for $1/each.




Will the paint stain my body or hair?


No. It will wash off easily in the shower at your home.




Do you have clean up areas?


We have a sink and paper towels for you to use. These are only meant to be used to wash your hands and face. It is not intended for a FULL BODY WASH. You will NOT be able to get 100% clean. After you wash yourself, the blacklight will still show a bit of paint residue that you will not be able to see in white light. If you are concerned about mess then we recommend the use of shower caps, ponchos and shoe covers.




Will the paint get in my car?


It could and it is up to you to protect it. We do have free plastic for you to use to cover your seats. Although the paint can stain some fabrics, it does wash off of most non porous materials with soap and water.




Can I bring my own canvases or paint?


No. We use specific paint. Our canvases have take-home boxes made for them so you can transport your wet artwork.




What do we do at Splatter Box?


You can paint on walls, create designs on each other, and our suggested use of desiging on canvases. Many parties turn into a "paint fight" and it is a blast. Please understand this uses more paint. We measure fun in happiness, not time.




What kind of music do you play?


We play music that is upbeat and makes for a fun environment. We cannot guarantee you won't hear a curse word.




Is Splatter Box and actual box?


No. It is a 2,500 sq. ft. mostly open space on the second floor of our facility. It is a shared space unless you have a private rental.




How old is your building?


It is the oldest industrial building in Albany, built in 1867. Also known as the Ironworks Building.




Do you have lockers?


Yes. We have lockers for you to store valuables and locks to use at no cost. Just ask for a lock.




How do we take home wet canvases?


We have boxes that come with your purchase of a canvas.




Do I have to wear shoes?


YES. YES. YES. Closed toe shoes are required.




Is this a guided lesson?


No. Splatter Box is a DIY studio. You get the paint and create your own artwork.




Is photography allowed?


Yes. We encourage you to take photos and please tag us on FB and IG! By entering the studio you acknowledge that you may ave your picture taken and it may be posted online.




When are you busiest?


12pm to 5pm Saturdays. Other times are generally not as busy. If you have very young children, you may enjoy a less busy time more.




Do you do refunds


No refunds.




Do I have to chaperone my child.


Yes, any child under 16 must have an adult chaperone in view of the child at all times. Maximum 4 children per 1 adult chaperone. a chaperone may acompany children at no cost.




Can we bring alcohol when its not BYOB?


Look for special 21+events on Saturday nights. Unless it says you can BYOB on your booking, please don't. Hard alcohol is NEVER allowed. Please limit your beverages to beer, wine, and cider ONLY.





BYOB

What does BYOB mean?


Bring Your Own Beer. On Saturday nights after 8:00pm, Splatter Box becomes 21yrs. and older. You are welcome to bring beer, wine, or cider. No hard alcohol. This is only allowed at specified times. Book specificly BYOB for this option.




Can I bring food?


You may bring in outside food and beverage.




What kind of music do you play?


We play music that is upbeat and makes for a fun environment.




If I book a spot will I share the space?


Yes, but we will designate a spot for you. Please keep 6ft distance from other groups.





CDC guidelines

What is your policy regarding coronavirus


We have increased cleaning procedures, wear face coverings, added more splatter space for distancing, revamped our scheduling procedures, and business model. We are following the other various cdc guidelines. Per the governors guideline, subjects are required to wear masks indoors unless eating or it's not practical. We will be spacing 6ft apart so you are not required to be wearing a mask while seated at your table(eating), using the bathroom, clean up sink, or painting. Do to the ever changing guidelines, please check with the cdc website for the most up to date guidelines regarding masks, etc. We ask guests to stay home if they have covid 19 related symptoms or have recently been exposed to anyone who has tested positive.
